Breaking the Chains: Freedom and Hope for Brick Kiln Workers
Modern-Day Slavery in Pakistan's Brick Kilns
For generations, thousands of Christian families in Pakistan have been trapped in the brick kiln industry—a system that operates as modern-day slavery. Entire families work from dawn to dusk, producing bricks under unbearable conditions, bound by debts that can never be repaid. Children who should be in classrooms stand alongside their parents in the scorching heat, their futures stolen before they even begin.
This is not just an economic issue. This is a spiritual crisis that demands our urgent response.
The Harsh Reality
Generational Bondage: Families have worked in brick kilns for decades, even centuries. Parents,
children, and grandchildren—all trapped in the same cycle of debt and servitude with no way out.
Crushing Poverty: Workers live in makeshift shelters near the kilns, without access to clean water,
proper sanitation, or adequate food. Their wages barely cover survival, let alone repaying the debts
imposed upon them.
Educational Deprivation: Children of brick kiln workers have no access to schools, colleges, or
universities. Instead of learning to read and write, they learn to make bricks. Their God-given
potential is buried in the dust of the kilns.
Spiritual Isolation: These Christian families are denied access to churches and Christian
fellowship. Working for employers of different faiths who provide no religious accommodation,
they are cut off from their spiritual community, unable to worship freely or grow in their faith.
Hopelessness: Generation after generation lives without hope, without dignity, and without the
knowledge that God has a better plan for their lives.
